Supplemental Novice Information:
1.) The fundamental purpose of the Novice Class is to train new drivers so that they understand the basic racing rules
and so that they are able to handle themselves and their cars in a safe manner on the track.
2.) The minimum age for novice students is five years for racing and four and a half for practice and training only. (4
½ year olds may not practice or train during an event.)
3.) Novice training is provided by the Novice Director prior to the start of the TKQMA racing season. Drivers that wish
to begin racing in a TKQMA Novice Class after the start of the season are very welcome and will be paired with
TKQMA members to receive training assistance. Please contact the TKQMA Novice Director for assistance with
training.
4.) Novice drivers will not be allowed to sign-in at TKQMA race events until they have been approved by the TKQMA
Novice Director to begin racing in a TKQMA Novice Class.
5.) Drivers five through eight years of age begin racing in the Junior Novice Class while drivers nine years and older
begin racing in the Senior Novice Class.
6.) In an effort to obtain the greatest benefit from participation in organized Quarter Midget racing, Novice handlers
should read Article 3, Sec. 2 of the QMA rules book, entitled “Novice Program Committee” and all of Article 7, entitled
“Novice Rules and Procedures.” This rules book is available via a website link found under the ‘Members’ pull-down
menu on the TKQMA website.
7.) Novice parents will receive from the National office their picture ID badge and rulebook. This rulebook along with
documents available via this TKQMA website should be reviewed by all TKQMA driver handlers.
8.) Novice drivers’ cards for drivers six years old and older will be valid for three months. Extensions of a Novice Card
shall only be granted when written request of the handlers has been accepted and signed by three of the five
members of the Novice Committee. Drivers not yet six will be issued a Novice Card good until their sixth birthday plus
three months. It should be noted that the drivers develop in the Novice Classes at varying rates, often a function of
how far a family must travel to practice at the track, the experience of the novice driver’s handler, the age of the
novice driver, and so on. The TKQMA Novice Committee is prepared to assist novice drivers and their handlers
advance to competitive classes when they are ready, within the context of the QMA rulebook sections pertaining to
Novice Training and Novice Classes.
9.) A driver may be moved from to the Super Stock/Honda 120 class at any time if in the opinion of the Novice
Committee the driver is qualified.
10.) The 2008 TKQMA Novice Committee is:
a. Brian Dultmeier, Novice Director
b. Dan Bailey, Race Director
